BEIJING : Hollywood is usually the place to see and be seen, but for Taiwanese pop singer Jay Chou, star of the smash hit “The Green Hornet,” Tinseltown offers a welcome break from the paparazzi in Asia.

“As an artist, I need a lot of space which I cannot really get in many places in Asia,” Chou told reporters Monday ahead of the Chinese premiere of the superhero flick, which co-stars Seth Rogen.

“It felt like I was having a vacation in the United States – I took my mother to the production, and it felt really good to have some time for myself. I didn’t have that feeling of people surreptitiously taking my picture.”

“The Green Hornet” – the tale of a young playboy businessman who becomes a crime fighter – topped the box office in its opening weekend in North America, taking in US$34 million, according to industry data.

Chou, largely unknown in the United States but hugely popular in Asia, plays the role of Kato, sidekick to the Green Hornet played by Rogen.

French director Michel Gondry confessed to not knowing how famous Chou was when he started considering him for the part of Kato, adding he and Rogen – who wrote the screenplay – later hesitated about casting a pop star.

“We had a conference on Skype where Seth was reading with Jay and we felt there was already chemistry, even though it was with a 10-second delay, and we liked him for his acting,” Gondry said.

Rogen has since declared himself a fan of Chou’s music, and he and Gondry joked that the Taiwanese singer would “force” them to listen to some of his tracks.

“Jay many times took us in his car with his bodyguard and forced us to listen to his music very loud, and if we didn’t like it, he would beat us up,” Gondry joked.

Chou had to learn English for the part, and acknowledged the language barrier would be a challenge for any future work in Hollywood. But Rogen praised his co-star for his quick mastery of the language.

“He knew very little (English) when we started filming and a few weeks in, he could improvise his own dialogue and come up with his own jokes, which was very frustrating because that took me years to learn how to do,” he said.

Yesterday night (28th of October), when Edison Chen attended a fashion event in Beijing he expressed that he will be starring in Jay Chou’s “Initial D 2″. This movie will begin filming next year, the director of the last movie Andrew Lau will be the producer. Jay Chou, who was originally the male lead, will upgrade to become the director. Today (29th of October), the reporters called Andrew Lau himself, he confirmed that he was currently exploring this project. Besides Edison Chen and Jay Chou starring, he didn’t reveal anyone else.

Andrew Lau told reporters, he and Jay Chou are indeed in the progress of moving this project forward. After the previous movie “Initial D” was released in 2005 there have been rumours about a sequel, but after 5 years there was still nothing. Andrew Lau explained: “We couldn’t find a suitable entry point, plus we thought at the time filming racing cars was a bit dangerous. If we start filming next year we will be fully prepared in terms of safety.”

Early on in 2005 not long after “Initial D” came out, Andrew Lau and Alan Mak revealed that they planned to start filming the sequel in 2006 at the Alpes, they confirmed Jay Chou was going to continue to play Fujiwara Takumi. At the time it was rumoured that there was a rift between Edison Chen and Alan Mak and that he might be taken out of the sequel. Now 5 years have passed, Jay Chou himself has become a director, Edison Chen has experienced the setback of the “photo scandal”.

Jay Chou’s Superman might not be able to fly, but he sure saved the day for Cape No. 7 director Wei Te-Sheng. The star apparently loaned 40 million (NTD) to the director for his new movie Seediq Bale. Filming of the epic began last November and is not expected to complete until July. The film’s financial troubles has been widely reported as its budget has already ballooned to a whopping 600 million. Most recently, the production is said to be owing 2.6 million in car rentals.

Jay Chou reportedly made 550 million last year. His company JVR Music confirmed the rumor was indeed true, “Jay supports good movies, good directors. They needed money at the time, so Jay helped out, but we can’t disclose the actual amount.”

Seediq Bale producer Huang Chih-Ming responded, “Director Wei worked as the assistant director on the pre-production of Monga. We later collaborated on Secret. He thinks it’s very cool of director Wei to make Seediq Bale. He loaned us some money after knowing about our financial difficulties. It was paid back to him in April. We had a written acknowledgment. He only charged us $1 for interest, so we are very grateful for his help.”

Overview of Super “Charitable” Man
(All values in NTD)

1 million – President Chou donated to help a female dancer with getting a heart transplant.
13.2 million – Donated to the Sichuan Earthquake
12.8 million – Donated 2 million to the 88 flood initially and sponsored 300 children in the disaster area.
40 million – Loaned to Seediq Bale

Jay Chou continued to wow fans on the 3rd night of his concert at the Taipei Arena. Not only did he impress the audience with yet another performance, but more surprisingly, his rumored ex-girl friend Jolin Tsai was special guest of the night!

The Era 2010 World Tour marks the 4th tour in Jay Chou’s 10-year career. Its state-of-the-art visual effects and production is said to cost 100 million (NTD). However, the concert was criticized by fans for being too short and featuring too many singers from his company. Jay Chou was quick to react as he added 4 songs on the second night. JVR Music’s Lara, The Drifters, Cindy Yen and Gary Yang all took the stage. Unfortunately, The Drifters was noticeably the show’s washroom break when they performed.

After former J-Girls Jessie Chiang and Hebe attended the concert earlier, fans got a real surprise when Jolin Tsai appeared as the special guest on the final night. She ascended onto the stage while Jay Chou was singing “Give Me The Time of a Song” during the encore. Fans were shocked and excited as they screamed through the rumored ex-couple’s entire performance. Interestingly, Jay Chou previously said his special guest would be someone beyond everyone’s expectations. And yes, he has kept his word indeed.

Singing “Superman Can’t fly”, disclosing the thoughts of a heavenly king, in the new album “Hip Hop Air Hostess” and more, there are 3 songs related to flying, and it reflects his busy circumstances. Jay Chou buys cars without a second glance, but he smiled saying he has claustrophobia so he won’t be splashing out on a private jet.

His new album is called “The Era” and Jay Chou revealed that originally they planned to use a fighter aircraft for the cover. He would board it looking handsome; a symbol of travelling through time, continuing the concept of music and bringing the fans a mixed style of Chinese and Western flying forward. However, because of time constraints they didn’t have time to rent a fighter jet, and the idea had to be scrapped.

Earning a few hundred million annually, buying a plane is not hard. Jay Chou is often travelling from here to there, yet he’s never thought about buying a private jet because he has claustrophobia. When he gets on a plane he’s too scared to look behind, “Like being on an elevator, if it stops halfway, I might go crazy.” So when he gets on the plane he immediately goes to sleep, he’s never had the experience of flirting with pretty girls like in “Hip Hop Air Hostess”.

He said, in this album half of the songs were produced in America. At the time he was filming “The Green Hornet”, and he completed the music in his trail. There are 3 songs related to flying; it’s just a coincidence.

Yesterday the ever busy Jay Chou was interviewed on SET. Regarding rumours that Jay Chou is taking on the role of Bruce Lee in “Yip Man 3″, he denied this, saying: “I don’t look like Bruce Lee, plus playing Bruce Lee comes with a lot of pressure, I suggest getting Danny Chan from Shaolin Soccer, he’s more like him!” He expressed he’ll start filming “Secret 2″ next year, as usual he’ll be directing it himself and starring in it as well.

Jay Chou prudent over choosing partner, definitely won’t get divorced

Earlier, Jay Chou went on UFO Radio to promote his new album and the presenter Joseph Wang asked: “What kind of girl does your mother like?” He thought about it and said: “I guess someone who is filial and can do housework.” Joseph Wang concluded: “So outward appearance is not important?” He laughed shouting: “I think it’s important!” The mother and son are close, but their view on girls is very different.

Jay Chou wants everything to be diao, but he has a different side when it comes to his family. Nicholas Tse has given him some food for thought, “In the past I went to Hong Kong often, I bumped into him when he was still unmarried, but after I bumped into him later, he was already a father. I talked to him about being a father, and it was pretty special.” Tse is 30 this year, and Jay Chou is a year older. Seeing him already a father of two, he’s not in a hurry but his attitude is rather contradictory.

“If I had kids, I can take them out to play, go on shows, but once I go abroad, what will I do since I can’t accompany them?” He said, once he gets married, there’s no way he’ll get divorced, “So I’ll carefully choose (my other half).”

Jay Chou’s look in his new album “The Era” has been exposed! His cool looking face turns into a “vampire prince”, making the theme of his new album prominent, he said: “I hope my music is like a vampire, never aging!”

It’s been well over 1 year since his last album, Jay Chou’s 10th big piece is finally ready, he turns himself into a vampire from medieval ages, he wears a suit with a feathered cape inside a gorgeous old castle, so handsome. Even though 9 years ago Jay Chou already wrote a vampire song “William’s Castle”, but he guaranteed that there’ll definitely be a breakthrough this time, he hopes his music can be like vampires “spanning across era after era”. “The Era” album will be up for pre-order on the 28th of April at all major record shops and 7-Eleven.

Hot on the heels of the first broadcast of Jay Chou’s new album main plugged song “Superman Can’t Fly” on radio yesterday, another of Jay Chou’s new song “Fireworks Cool Easily” is exposed, compared to “Superman Can’t Fly”, “Fireworks Cool Easily” is a song full of Chinese style, the melody is sweet and elegant, the lyrics are deep, it’s an excellent piece that is great to listen to.

A lot of fans online have expressed that just with this song “Fireworks Cool Easily” is enough to defeat all the songs from Jay Chou’s last album “Capricorn”, you can see how popular it is!

Following the appearance of the two songs, Jay Chou’s new album will soon greet everyone, the fans who have waited so long can finally fully enjoy the heavenly king’s incomparable charm.

3 years since the last time, Jay Chou’s 2010 latest world tour kicks off on the 11th and 12th of June at the Taipei Arena! The new concert is called “Jay Chou The Era Concert”, it means the 10 years that Jay Chou has been out since 2000, he has amassed 10 albums that constantly surpasses himself, he leads the music industry with his performance! This is Jay Chou’s 4th world tour concert since 2002 “The One”, 2004 “Incomparable” and 2007’s world tour concert! The concert will include works from Jay Chou’s previous 9 albums, and new songs from his soon to be released 10th album in May, fresh out of the oven, the concert poster and stage picture bring out a mysterious atmosphere, you can already feel the audio banquet this promises to be!

Jay Chou looks handsome in the concert poster, the look has the feeling of someone coming from the future mixed in with beautiful elements from the ancient Chinese century, Jay Chou looks like he has time travelled and going forward! The stage is designed with the concepts of “a future world” and “spaceship”, the audience will see the stage appear to emerge as a “spaceship”, mixing in elements of “rock” and “the ancient Chinese century”, to produce a powerful visual contrast, you could say it was a classic and brave stage style!

In the past Jay Chou has always held the first session of his concert in Taipei outside, for the first time he is going into the Taipei Arena, on the stage he will definitely turn the audience’s senses upside down! So it’s not just the stage design that is a first for the Taipei Arena, even the displays will be the biggest and fullest in the history of the Taipei Arena! The displays will be different from what the Taipei Arena has used in the past, the most that has been used is 1000 strips of LED, for Jay Chou’s first time in the Taipei Arena he will make use of over 2000 strips of LED, the special thing is that in the action effects there will be a “360 floating solid render” and Mapping technique (the newest visual effect techniques), the “360 floating solid render” can simply be described as a solid rendering effect produced by projections from 4 sides and in 8 directions into the air! All the fans will not just see one dimension of the image, they can see 360 degrees of the image! It is something only audiences who go there themselves can experience, it will give your senses a new experience.

Jay Chou likes to have full control over music and the visuals, he has plenty of ideas for his large scale concert, besides preparing his new album, at the same time he is holding meetings everyday with workers about the content of the concert, Jay Chou: “At the Sprite press conference I’ve already played around with 4D, this time I’m going to play with something special, like the “360 floating solid render”, is one such special visual effect. Also, the music instruments I needed to learn I have already learnt, this time I will pay more attention to the package of the stage.” Having come out for 10 years he has amassed 10 albums, he has so many classic popular during his 10 years, during the meetings between Jay Chou and the workers, after a few rounds of discussions about the track list, Jay Chou confessed: “There’s too many songs, when we were choosing songs it was vexing, it’s good now it’s sorted, they are songs everyone likes.” Jay Chou has an endless amount of ideas, at present the workers are already focusing on planning and producing the contents of the performance.

In the past the “360 floating solid render” has only been used at small commercial press conferences because of the cost, it is the first concert to use this! In terms of lighting and displays they are using the leading complex synchronous techniques in Asia, it will make the whole performance surpass the world standard in visual stage sensory! Jay Chou requested, not only the design of the stage, the visual effect, the action effects will surprise people, the lighting, the sound, the clothing and look, the contents of the performance…will surpass everyone’s imagination, Jay Chou wants to make the best concert no matter the cost! Just on the “360 floating solid render” has cost over NT$40 million, making this session of “Jay Chou The Era Concert” cost nearly 100 million yuan! Jay Chou’s 10th anniversary world tour concert will start off at the Taipei Arena, in order to reward the many fans who have supported him for 10 years, he will produce the diaoest world class stage effect! He will be writing himself into the records of the Taipei Arena!

In the past Jay Chou’s 3 large scale world concerts, each one of the world tours spanned many cities and lasted 2 to 3 years, the 4th large scale concert “Jay Chou The Era Concert” that is about to begin in 2010 has naturally become the concert fans from everywhere are looking forward to! Each time for Jay Chou’s world tour the first stop is always Taipei, from Taipei he starts and sings around the world, the performance in Taipei is always one that fans around the world focus on! Due to heavenly king Jay Chou’s performances on the 11th and 12th of June, the Taipei Arena is radiating with light different from before, this time’s concert ticket prices are: 500 yuan, 4500 yuan, 4000 yuan, 3500 yuan, 3000 yuan, 2500 yuan, 1800 yuan, 1300 yuan, 800 yuan, etc…9 types of prices. Before Jay Chou’s concert date and location are announced, it has caused many fans to guess online, now the details are officially announced, fans are expected to rub their hands in glee at the tickets going on sale. The ticket sales system (www.ticket.com.tw) for “Jay Chou The Era Concert” will begin selling tickets on the 15th of April at 12 noon, 7-Eleven’s ibone system and FamilyMart will start selling tickets at the same time, it will definitely cause a struggle for tickets!

Not long ago Jolin Tsai and Jay Chou were rumoured to be getting back together again, but now news is coming out that, the two met to talk about business! Due to the fact that there is only one album left on Jolin Tsai’s contract with Chen Ze Shan, it is now rumoured that Jay Chou intends to sign Jolin Tsai, after all Jolin Tsai’s yearly income is 3.5 hundred million, if he was to obtain the heavenly queen, his books will certainly look good, but the agent companies from both sides have not commented on the rumour, only expressing that they are not clear about the contents of the contract, leaving it to the imagination of the outside world.

Things to wear, things to drink, things to wash, things to use, Jolin Tsai is like a commercial board, she is spokesperson for endless products, now even her old flame Jay Chou is rumoured to be entering the battle for her.

It turns out playing bowling wasn’t because the love had been reignited, but it was to talk about business, Jay Chou wants to snatch the heavenly queen, what he sees is of course the major commercials behind her; totalling from last year, Jolin Tsai took on 24 commercial performances, raking in 80 million; she held 2 sessions of concerts totalling 7.8 million, she was spokesperson for 11 brands, 2.3 hundred million, another 20 million for royalties and also royalties for her own design, 10 million, her income is close to 3.5 hundred million.

Based on the average cut between agent companies and record companies these days, even if it was split 30% and 70%, if you won the record contract you’ll still earn money, the contract between Jolin Tsai and Chen Ze Shan is only one album per year, now the last one is at the end of July, Jay Chou, who previously got into an argument with Chen Ze Shan about buying chart numbers, has been rumoured to harbour intentions of turning his old flame into his colleague.

Jay Chou’s agent company expressed, because they are not clear about the contents of the contract, they will not make any comments, Chen Ze Shan also didn’t comment, who will Jolin Tsai end up with, it is inevitable it will become a talking point, it is also indirectly increasing her fame.

On the 5th of September, the beautiful Cameron Diaz & Taiwan’s heavenly king Jay Chou were filming ‘The Green Hornet’ together in Los Angeles. That day, Cameron was wearing a long blue dress, which showed off her figure. However, when she was walking, she lost her balance and almost tripped over, but Jay rescued her just in time. The 2 were pulling and dragging each other; they looked very close and did not avoid arousing suspicion.

During filming, Cameron even took off her shoes, carried them in her hands, and walked barefoot. And infront of the Hollywood beauty, Jay looked very handsome in his suit and tie.
