A Korean pop concert held yesterday at the Expo Culture Center caused something of a stampede – reports of how bad it got vary, from the Epoch Time’s rumor that someone died to Shanghai Daily’s blithe announcement that the streets were “blocked by fans.”

This event was a warning about the power of K-pop: South Korea had planned a “classical and pop” concert that included insanely huge acts – Kangta, BoA and Super Junior, whose Shanghai shows sell out at 10,000+ seated stadiums each year they come. They’re so insanely huge that it almost makes you wonder what organizers were thinking when they arranged that show.

To get in, all you supposedly had to do was get an Expo ticket and line up at the center, an act which, if you’re a student, costs 90RMB. That’s less than the Super Junior 2009 show’s ticket prices at Yuan Shen Sports Center, where the cheapest you could get in for was 480RMB. Unfortunately, there were only 5000 tickets available, and half of those had already been given to South Korean groups – a fact that eager Chinese K-pop fans hadn’t been made aware of.

By midnight on Saturday, according to Lianhe Zaobao, there were already 2000 people waiting outside the Expo’s Pudong door. Night watch people were blindsided. By the time the limited amount of tickets sold out (The Standard reports there were less than 500), roughly 5000 people were waiting around.

When the crowd realized all tickets were gone, they began to get violent. A witness on the internet said that “several girls were stepped on and over by several guys. So messy, so messy, All the crying and yelling turned into one big wave. There were so many shoes. One girl even fell from the second floor.” The original post has already been harmonized on Tianya. Lianhe says the rumor that this girl died hasn’t been confirmed, though Hong Kong’s Apple Daily seems to be reporting it as fact.

What they both agree on is that hundreds of people were injured, whether from the pushing and shoving or from heatstroke. The Expo official report itself said that “In the event, several tourists suffered from heatstroke and abrasions and were rushed to nearby medical facilities at the park.”

After making a successful comeback in 2009 with Sorry, Sorry and It’s You, Super Junior will be looking to cement their position with the announcement of The 2nd Asia Tour Super Show II (10 shows). With slightly more than a month to go, Super Junior will kick start their concert tour in Seoul first, plus 7 other cities in Asia like Beijing, Shanghai, Bangkok, Taipei, etc.

Their first stop in Seoul will see them hold a concert at the Olympic Fencing Gymnasium for 3 separate days, from 17 – 19th July. Tickets will go on sale in batches from 16 – 18th June at 8PM (KST) via G-Market. Organizers are working hard to ensure that tickets sales will run much more smoothly this time unlike last year where fans crashed the server while trying to get tickets for their first Asia Tour Super Show last year.

Fans will be able to see Super Junior perform their new songs from their 3rd album plus other exciting performances lined up. There was no announcement on whether Kim Kibum would be present since he has been absent from Super Junior 3rd album promotions lately. But he will probably be there since it’s a big thing.

Super Junior – SORRY, SORRY!
Super Junior seemed to be everywhere in 2008, what with their activities in Korea, China, and Japan, their concert tour, and their usual flurry of television and radio appearances. But the boys have been apart more often than not in the past year between commitments to units Super Junior-M and Super Junior-H, plus acting and hosting gigs. A music documentary that includes all the stories of idols, who have become Korean music’s identification, will be aired for the first time.

MTV, a global music entertainment channel, has arranged a special program, ‘MTV Heroes (or ‘Heroes’),’ that will choose 12 teams of ‘5-star super idol stars,’ who have influenced the music industry, and observe their past through their present.
The star that will start off the show on the upcoming 15th will be Girls’ Generation. Girls’ Generation have raised their awareness through their debut song “Into the New World” and a show called ‘MTV Girls’ Generation.’

The producer of ‘Heroes,’ Lee Han Hyung, revealed that “Viewers who love stars will find happiness by watching not only the stars’ present moments but their activities from the past as well” and that “we have prepared a special show that contains everything about the stars, who have been with MTV all the time, to satisfy the viewers’ desires.”

‘Heroes,’ which will open its first door on the upcoming 15th, will air the moments of stars who have received the most love from the public during the past 5 years, including Wonder Girls, Super Junior, Big Bang, Rain, SS501, Dong Bang Shin Ki, Lee Hyo Ri, Se7en, Boa, Shinee, and F.T Island, every Sunday night at 8:50PM.

Super Junior will show Suju’s dancesteps of their new song on FEB.27(friday).

It seems SuKiRa will have the exclusive rights for SuJu to show their
new dance for their new song. The performance of the dancesteps will be
available on SuKiRa’s homepage on February 27. Well, not really the
first performance of the SONG, but the first to show SuJu’s dancesteps
for their new song from the sounds of this article.

The release date has been narrowed down to either March 17 or March 22. However fans have been skeptical of both days because Super Junior M will be holding Fanmeetings in China from March 13 to March 20. On the other hand, ELF has been insisting March 22 is the wrong date.

Super Junior will have an encore Seoul concert.

On January 3rd and 4th of next year, Super Junior will hold their “Super Junior The 1st ASIA TOUR-SUPER SHOW ENCORE” at the Seoul Olympic Park Fencing Stadium.

This concert will be an encore to this year’s past “Super Junior The 1st ASIA TOUR-SUPER SHOW” on February 22-24 (3 days) at the Seoul Olympic Park Fencing Stadium.

Meanwhile, on November 22 they will perform on the stage in Shanghai, China for their “Super Junior The 1st ASIA TOUR-SUPER SHOW in Shanghai.”

Super Junior-M perform at the Ninth CCTV-MTV Music Awards

Two songs which respectively remind people of the strong earthquake in China and the Beijing Olympics were named Best Hits at the Ninth CCTV-MTV Music Awards, held Sunday in Beijing.

“Sheng Si Bu Li” (“Together Forever”), which was written shortly after the May 12 earthquake, expressed the unity of Chinese people, while the Olympic song “Welcome to Beijing” showcased Chinese people’s hospitality to the world, the awards committee said.

The video of “Welcome to Beijing,” featuring around 100 Asian celebrities, was named Best Music Video.

Jackie Chan, who lent voice to both songs, shared a special contribution award with “Welcome to Beijing” composer Xiao Ke. Chan sent a video message to thank the committee and fans.

In the individual categories, Karen Mok and Eason Chan were adjudged Most Popular Hong Kong Female and Male Singer respectively. Jolin Tsai and Show Luo won the same titles in the Taiwan category. Taiwan pop-rock band Sodagreen was the Best Group of Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The award for Most Popular Mainland Male Singer went to Pang Long, while actress-turned-singer Chen Hao was named Most Popular Female Singer.

Chen Hao’s win came amid media speculation a week earlier that she already knew she won the award, and that she won by selection, not public voting. Denying this, Chen Hao said that before the function, the organizing committee only invited her to perform a song and nothing else.

The annual CCTV-MTV awards, jointly organized by China Central Television and MTV, were halted last year for various reasons.
